In-Person SOT® Three Categories Seminar

The Three Categories form the foundation of Sacro Occipital Technique®. Yet truly understanding the system requires more than memorizing indicators or block placements. It requires learning how to recognize the patient’s predominant distortion pattern, determine where that pattern begins, and decide what should be addressed first.

If you want to deepen their understanding of Dr. Major Bertrand DeJarnette’s work and become more confident applying the Three Category system in daily practice this seminar is for you.

In this 12-hour, 2-day seminar Drs. Rosen and Watson will guide you through the evaluation, clinical reasoning, and hands-on procedures used to identify and address Category I, Category II, and Category III patterns. The seminar draws from DeJarnette’s category system and emphasizes locating the primary subluxation pattern rather than simply treating the patient’s presenting symptoms.

Skills You Will Learn

You will explore the clinical purpose and neurological significance of each category:

Category I: Learn how sacral-occipital reciprocal motion, upper cervical function, the dural meningeal system, and cerebrospinal fluid mechanics relate to the Category I complex.

Category II: Examine the ligamentous weight-bearing portion of the sacroiliac joint and the global structural, muscular, fascial, proprioceptive, cranial, and TMJ compensations associated with Category II.

Category III: Develop a clearer understanding of chronic pain, disc involvement, nerve-root and dural-sleeve traction, antalgic presentations, muscular guarding, and the clinical precautions required when caring for more complex patients.

Hands-On Learning

This seminar is designed to move beyond theory. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Practice examination procedures
  • Compare findings with other participants
  • Refine palpation and indicator interpretation
  • Review block placement
  • Work through ascending and descending patterns
  • Ask questions about difficult or confusing cases
  • Receive direct feedback from Dr. Rosen

Why This Seminar Matters

The strength of SOT® lies in its ability to help the chiropractor move beyond symptoms and identify the patient’s predominant pattern of dysfunction.

When you understand the Three Categories more deeply, you become better prepared to answer the questions that matter most:

  • What is the primary pattern?
  • Where is it beginning?
  • What is compensatory?
  • What should be corrected first?
  • Which indicators should guide the adjustment?
  • How do I know when the procedure has been effective?
  • What should I reassess before doing anything else?

This seminar is designed to help you leave with a more organized system of analysis, greater confidence in your hands, and a clearer understanding of how to apply SOT® with purpose.

“My goal in taking this series was to have certainty in knowing what to look for, what to adjust, and how to communicate that with the parents and Dr. Rosen’s SOT® Pediatric seminar provides just that. The information is so in-depth and hands on that you will leave with more certainty, connection, confidence, and better communication. Taken this course has increased the referrals in my pediatric practice, so if you’re on the fence about taking the series, just do it. The knowledge and hands on experience will take your practice to the next level.”

  • John Caruso, DC

“If you see kids, (or don’t see kids yet), been in pediatrics for 3 months or 30 years, taking Dr Martin Rosen’s in-person seminars or seminar series is a no-brainer. The technical proficiency, clinical excellence and conviction to check, adjust and recheck kiddos is unlike anything we have in the profession today. If you’re on the fence, just jump in. The future of our children depends on it.”
